Endoscopic Female Reproductive Surgery

A unique feature of the Endoscopic Female Reproductive Surgery Department is its well-rounded approach to patients. The qualified doctors have long experience both in the female reproductive system and in endoscopic surgery, offering continuous and comprehensive treatment in cases of infertility and endometriosis, but also in conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and menstrual irregularities.

Endoscopic Female Reproductive Surgery involves specialized endoscopic techniques (robotic, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic), which aim to correct conditions of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and peritoneum. The procedures may include:

  • Treatment of peritoneal or ovarian endometriosis
  • Removal of ovarian cysts
  • Removal of uterine fibroids
  • Resection of pelvic adhesions
  • Ovarian drilling (PCOS)
  • Tubal reconstructive surgery
  • Removal of hydrosalpinx/pyosalpinx
  • Fallopian tube reanastomosis
  • Lysis of intrauterine and endocervical adhesions
  • Removal of uterine polyps
  • Removal of submucosal uterine fibroids
  • Repair of congenital uterine anomalies

Endoscopic Gynecologic Surgery

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a surgical procedure that examines the interior of the uterine cavity to diagnose and treat conditions of the endometrium (fibroids, polyps, adhesions, hyperplasia and congenital uterine anomalies). It is also performed in cases of infertility, miscarriages and abnormal bleeding (uterine bleeding or postmenopausal bleeding).

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is used to investigate the abdominal space (peritoneal cavity) and especially to fully assess the internal genitalia, i.e. the uterus, the fallopian tubes and the ovaries. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia with the help of a thin telescope (laparoscope), which is inserted in the peritoneal cavity through a small 1cm incision just below the navel.

Laparoscopic surgery is applied in the entire range of gynecologic procedures, such as:

  • Removal of fibroids
  • Removal of ovarian cysts
  • Treatment of endometriosis
  • Lysis of adhesions
  • Repair of the fallopian tubes / Tubal reconstructive surgery

Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery is an advanced form of laparoscopic surgery, with added benefits:

  • 3D visualization of the surgical field
  • 7 degrees of freedom in motion
  • Ambidexterity
  • One tenth of a millimeter precision
  • Improved ergonomics for surgeons during surgery

Robotic surgery eliminates the constraints of laparoscopic surgery, expanding the range of procedures that may be completed using a minimally invasive method.

The Benefits

Reproductive surgery, coupled with the benefits of endoscopic surgery, is a significant step in the treatment of female infertility.

  • It achieves full fertility restoration, making the option of spontaneous conception possible.
  • It also increases the success rates of assisted reproduction in the cases deemed suitable.

Specialized endoscopic procedures are ideal for women who wish to maintain their fertility, by protecting the ovarian tissue. They are also used for the treatment of chronic symptoms that relate to the female reproductive system, such as increased bleeding or chronic pelvic pain.
