Member of Leksell Gamma Knife Society

The Leksell Gamma Knife Society was founded in 1989 as a forum for Gamma Knife® users to exchange information, experiences and clinical techniques, as well as clinical data on the use of Leksell Gamma Knife.

Mission

The mission of the Leksell Gamma Knife® Society is to further define and expand the role of Gamma Knife® Surgery in the treatment of intracranial disorders.

Objectives

• Improve results achieved in the field of radiosurgery by promoting support of basic and clinical research, with a focus on expanding the role of Leksell Gamma Knife®
• Increase the visibility and acceptance of Leksell Gamma Knife® technique in the worldwide medical community and among healthcare providers and patients
• Maintain leadership in the field of radiosurgery by continued commitment to the highest standards of research and technical achievement
• Stimulate multi-center trials and cross-site collaboration

Services

• The International meeting, consisting of plenary and poster sessions, informal networking and social activities, is held approximately every eighteen months. Additional meetings of special interest groups are held periodically.
• The annual Patients Treated with Leksell Gamma Knife® Survey is conducted to track total treatment volume, clinical trends and regional differences. This information provides a basis for publications and presentations about Leksell Gamma Knife® surgery.

The Emblem

The Society’s emblem is a knife, designed by a Laplander craftsman from deer antlers.

The HYGEIA Hospital’s Gamma Knife Brain Radiosurgery Department is a member of the International Leksell Gamma Knife Society. From 2008 until May 2010, it chaired the Society, while at the same time having possession of the emblem.
