Services

The 1st Cardiology Department was founded in 1992. From its foundation our aim was to treat any cardiac disorder according to the existing international guidelines. Our clinical team is continuously ready to manage the whole spectrum of Clinical Cardiology and provide full support to the other medical and surgical specialties.

Education

Our Department has organized the bi-monthly scientific cardiology meeting where interesting cases are presented, literature is reviewed and common clinical practices within the hospital are agreed. We participate every year in the scientific program of the hospital (cases on Wednesdays, lectures on Thursdays). We offer training of young doctors, participants of “A Bgenopoulos” program. Regular tutorials in educational programs for trainees in Cardiology specialty of many State and University hospitals.

Special interests

Preventive Cardiology
Active collaboration with the Working Group on Preventive Cardiology of the Hellenic Cardiological Society, collaboration in the creation of the Hellenic Heartscore for estimation of cardiovascular risk in asymptomatic individuals, and collaboration in the international INTERHEART study.

Acute coronary syndromes
Participation in studies of antithrombotic therapies (OASIS program) and initiative to circulate therapeutic algorithms in collaboration with the other cardiology groups. Key role in organizing and conducting the Panhellenic registry of patients with acute myocardial infarction HELIOS of the Hellenic Cardiological Society, a registry that served as a prototype for future registries.

Atrial fibrillation
Key role in organizing and conducting the Panhellenic registry of patients with atrial fibrillation RAFTING. Particular interest in anticoagulation therapy with novel anticoagulant drugs (research activity and publications on laboratory monitoring of such drugs in collaboration with the Central Laboratories).
