MITERA Breast Unit Becomes Member of Breast Centres Network International Acclaim

The MITERA Breast Unit has become a full member of the Breast Centres Network, the first international network of clinical centers exclusively dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The Breast Centres Network is made up of 184 breast units worldwide that fulfill the minimum requirements to be considered referral centers, with the aim of promoting and improving breast cancer care in Europe and throughout the world.

Commenting on this international acclaim, the Director of the MITERA Breast Imaging Department and newly elected Chairwoman of the Hellenic Breast Imaging Society, Ms Alexandra Athanasiou, noted, “The inclusion of MITERA to the international Breast Centres Network as a member confirms and rewards the way the MITERA Breast Unit operates. Our Unit fully complies with the international guidelines on the diagnosis and management of breast conditions, as specified by the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) and the American Cancer Society (ACS). We especially focus on preoperative diagnosis, which is necessary for designing individualized treatments, as well as on full diagnostic imaging, so that patients may have a comprehensive treatment option available to them on the same day.

The MITERA Breast Unit performs all imaging tests that relate to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast conditions. The Unit is equipped with the latest diagnostic technology, and staffed with qualified medical and nursing staff. The multidisciplinary team is made up of radiology specialists, breast surgeons, clinical pathologists, cytologists, oncologists, radiotherapists, plastic surgeons and nuclear medicine specialists, with long experience in Greece and abroad.
