Leader in Quality. The first hospital in Greece accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI)
27 June 2016
HYGEIA has renewed its Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for another three years and remains the first hospital in Greece to have received this distinction by the most distinguished and internationally recognized Accreditation Standard for Healthcare Organizations, which has certified only 500 hospitals worldwide.
This accreditation renewal demonstrates the continuous compliance of HYGEIA Hospital to this internationally recognized standard, which constitutes a seal of quality. It reflects the commitment of the Hospital to offer top-level healthcare to patients, while continuously improving its services, securing a safe environment, and limiting risks to patients, visitors and staff.
During the re-accreditation survey, which was conducted in June, a team of expert surveyors with international experience re-evaluated HYGEIA Hospital’s compliance to the JCI standards, which cover a wide range of topics. These include International Patient Safety Goals, patient assessment and care, anesthesia and surgical care, medication management, patient and family education, quality improvement, prevention and control of infections, facility management, staff qualifications and education, and management of information.
Commenting on the accreditation, HYGEIA Group’s BoD Chairwoman, Ms Areti Souvatzoglou, stated, “The JCI accreditation is the epitome of patient safety and efficient hospital organization. Our re-accreditation does not constitute the finish line, but a starting point to continue improving the services we offer. I must note that we strive for the accreditation of our operations based on international standards such as JCI – not because we are obligated to do so or for reasons of branding, but because we have decided to invest continually in quality care. We are filled with pride for having maintained our Gold Seal and we aim to continue developing our Hospital’s scientific and operational level with the same fervor and tenacity, so as to remain in this elite group of international healthcare organizations.”
The Joint Commission International standards are developed in consultation with worldwide healthcare experts and providers, as well as patients. The standards incorporate scientific literature and expert consensus to help organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
