HYGEIA: 8th Transcatheter Heart Valve Therapy Conference

30 April 2019

The HYGEIA Hospital Transcatheter Heart Valve Department and 2nd Cardiac Surgery Clinic are jointly organizing the 8th Transcatheter Heart Valve Therapy Conference, “Transcatheter Heart Valves Greece 2019”, at the Athens Concert Hall on 3-4 May 2019.

It is the only Conference in Greece that focuses exclusively on all the developments in the field of transcatheter heart valve therapy in the last few years. For yet another year, we aspire to make the Conference a scientific meeting place for all stakeholders and bodies, a place for disseminating the latest developments, presenting live surgeries and holding critical discussions for introducing these developments to Greece, to the benefit of our patients.

The development, clinical application and effectiveness of transcatheter heart valves is a striking example of how new technologies address these conditions seamlessly. Nowadays, conditions involving the aortic, mitral and pulmonary valves are treated with the transcatheter approach, avoiding conventional open surgery, while tricuspid valve transcatheter therapy studies have moved to the clinical application phase.

The developments in transcatheter heart valve therapy are advancing rapidly and it is no exaggeration that the state of affairs is changing from one year to the next. For example, in the last 6 months, the results from 3 major randomized studies supported extending transcatheter aortic valve replacement to most patients suffering from aortic stenosis, while transcatheter mitral valve repairs also received major support.

Highly-acclaimed cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from major centers in the USA and Europe will participate in the conference as speakers, including: George Dangas (Mt. Sinai, New York), Samir Kapadia (Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA), Saibal Kar (Cedars-Sinai, California, USA), Markus Kasel (German Heart Center, Germany), Neil Kleiman (Methodist Hospital, Texas, USA), Susheel Kodali (Columbia University, New York, USA), Francesco Maisano (University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland), Roxana Mehran (Mt. Sinai, New York, USA), Mehmet Ali Oto (Memorial Ankara Hospital, Ankara, Turkey), Nicolas Van Mieghem (Erasmus Medical Center, Netherlands) and James Velianou (McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada).
