Scientific Meetings

The Scientific Union of HYGEIA Doctors runs scientific meetings every Wednesday and Thursday with the aim of offering continuous training and information to physicians on current medical cases at HYGEIA. The speakers participating in the meetings are Hospital physicians as well as distinguished scientists from Greek or foreign hospitals. The Wednesday meetings focus on the presentation of an interesting medical case, while the Thursday meetings are dedicated to the presentation of a current medical issue.

The meetings are open to the public and to the medical community. Moreover, the Scientific Union of HYGEIA Doctors and the Education Committee jointly organize scientific meetings per specialty, as well as one-day seminars, conferences and scientific events addressed both to HYGEIA medical staff as well as invited physicians working in private or public-sector institutions.

Specifically, in the Wednesday meetings (between 12:30 and 13:30) an HYGEIA doctor presents an interesting Hospital case, step by step. The doctors who participate (through open discussion) try to ascertain the final diagnoses, recommending diagnostic tests that would be useful in this case.

In Thursday’s meetings (between 12:30 – 13:30) a doctor (from the hospital or a visiting Greek or foreign doctor) presents an interesting medical issue. Instead of a lecture, the matter may also be tacked in the form of a round-table discussion. The lecture is followed by discussion.

Doctors from all fields participate in these meetings, as well as members of the nursing staff. Doctors and nursing staff from other hospitals are welcome to observe, as members of the public are.

The Wednesday and Thursday classes receive continuing medical education (CME) points from the Greek Medical Association.

Excellency Award

Every year the Scientific Union of HYGEIA Doctors presents an award to one of HYGEIA’s salaried doctors for their hard work and ethos. The award is named “Award of Excellency” and includes a financial prize.
