1st Volunteering Award for “Environmental awareness against poverty”
The first prize for volunteering employees was awarded to Marfin Investment Group, from the Greek Network for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the ‘innovation category’, for “Environmental awareness against poverty,” implemented by HYGEIA Group and Laiki Bank.
This program deals with paper-recycling in collaboration with the non-governmental organization “Klimaka”. The program creates new jobs for the homeless, unemployed and disabled people and more generally for people facing social exclusion.
The Innovation Award of MIG will represent Greece in the European competition which takes place in 22 European countries within the European Year of Volunteers 2011; this competition is coordinated by the British agency ‘Business In The Community International’ and funded by the European Commission.
Objectives of this initiative include promoting and rewarding voluntary actions that implement business and private sector entities, in their attempt to galvanize support in disadvantaged groups in order to acquire helpful skills in successful job searches.
