HYGEIA Hospital Distinguished in the Area of Healthcare (October, 2013)
Quality-assurance systems are pivotal for improving and developing the services offered by healthcare providers. Implementing such systems is directly correlated to a company’s mission and vision, as well as its efforts towards innovation and extroversion.
In light of these, HYGEIA Hospital’s Clinical Lab Committee has designed and implements an Internal and External Quality Control System for Point of Care Testing (POCT), which was introduced in April 2013.
This system certifies the adequacy of POCT when performing specific lab tests, therefore, improving and enhancing their credibility. Quality control is performed for the following tests: blood sugar, blood gas, urine testing and Activated Coagulation Time (ACT). The POCT results provide useful information to clinical physicians and must be directly correlated to the clinical condition of patients. The system is implemented at all points of care within the Hospital.
No other private or public healthcare provider in Greece implements such an innovative system. Similar quality-control systems are implemented in major hospitals in the US, Europe and Australia (General Hospital Boston, University Medical Center Groningen Netherland, etc).
