A two-day Scientific Seminar on Innovations in Prostate Cancer Treatment was held at the N. Louros Conference Center, located within HYGEIA Hospital, on October 14-15, 2008.
The Seminar was organized by the HYGEIA Hospital 1st Urology Clinic and Radiotherapy and Oncology Center, as part of the affiliation between the HYGEIA and Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, urologists. The Seminar aimed at providing proper and multi-faceted information on the innovations in cancer treatment for confined and locally advanced prostate cancer. The Organizing Committee was made up of Chairman P. Kechagias and members F. Angelakis, A. Ntounis and M. Skouteris.
Special mention was made to the contribution of robotic surgery and brachytherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer, as well as the pathoanatomical problems associated with the disease.
The Seminar included live broadcasts of a robotic radical prostatectomy from the HYGEIA OR and a prostate brachytherapy procedure from the MITERA OR. It was followed with speeches by Professor D. Samadi on robotic prostatectomy and Professor N. Stone on brachytherapy. Anatomical Pathologist Professor P. Unger concluded the proceedings with a talk on the pathology of the prostate after brachytherapy.
