HYGEIA Hospital and its physicians continue to undertake initiatives that foster the widest possible educational interaction between the Hospital and major academic institutions worldwide. In 2014, following the initiative of Evangelia Razi, MD, PhD and Director of the 3rd Internal Medicine-Oncology Clinic, HYGEIA Hospital came into contact with the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University in the USA and offered 7 pre-med students the opportunity to participate in an educational program. Under the guidance of Dr. Razi, the students came to Greece and experienced the medical services of HYGEIA up close.
The educational program ran for a month and had been prepared accordingly so that students had the opportunity to witness everyday medical practices, train on practical matters, observe actual cases, prepare reports and work with the HYGEIA Group physicians. On a daily basis, the students worked as associates, getting acquainted with the demanding requirements of a hospital such as HYGEIA, which has been accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) for its quality services and patient safety standards.
During this time, the 7 students met leading physicians of all medical specialties and came into contact with latest generation technology, such as the only hybrid operating room in Greece, gamma knife, PET/CT, Da Vinci robotic system, etc. The HYGEIA Management covered the students’ accommodation expenses, while a similar program will take place in 2015.
This action forms part of HYGEIA Hospital’s continuous efforts to invest in education, as it has been doing throughout the 40 years it has been operating. The educational programs it organizes and implements include lifelong staff training and seminars for postgraduate students, as well as the opportunity for foreign students to do their internship in medical and healthcare specialties.
