2nd Cancer Forum Views and Opinions on Cancer Treatment

The 2nd Cancer Forum focusing on views, opinions and the latest development in cancer treatment was successfully held in Mykonos, Greece, on May 21-23, 2010. The Conference was organized by the Hellenic Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery and Oncology and was supported by HYGEIA Hospital. The Institute Chairman, surgeon Charilaos Pappis, noted that this year the amount of participants from all over Greece had tripled. The enthusiasm and dynamics created by the 1st Cancer Forum in 2009 encouraged leading scientists from all oncology specialties to gather at the magnificent Saint John Hotel and exchange views, be briefed on the latest developments and clarify certain medical matters.

The scientists who attended the proceedings represented some of the largest private, university and public hospitals of Greece. The world-renowned guests included Rene Adam, Professor of Surgery at the University of Paris; Dirk Arnold, Professor of Oncology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany; Philippe Rouanet, Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Montpellier; Manuela Schmidinger, head of the kidney cancer program at the University of Vienna; and Paris Tekkis, Professor of Surgery at Royal Marsden Hospital, London.

The meeting was attended by surgeons, pathologists-oncologists, urologists, radiation therapists, anatomic pathologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, nuclear medicine doctors and nurses specializing in oncology. The topics discussed included neuroendocrine tumors, sarcomas, stomach and large intestine malignancies, kidney and prostate cancer, and liver tumors.

The discussions highlighted the true nature of the conference, namely the constructive exchange of opinions among experts so that the issue of cancer may be dealt efficiently and effectively. This complex problem requires specialized knowledge, which was extended through the round-table discussions to the doctors of all specialties.
At the end of the proceedings, everyone agreed that an even more creative meeting should be organized next year.
