1st Hellenic Congress on Oncologic Imaging

Athens Music Hall Conference Center

The latest techniques and methods available in Medical Imaging provide the opportunity for early diagnosis of tumors as well as exact evaluation of their extent (cancer staging) so that the most appropriate and beneficial treatment may be selected. These techniques, coupled with the swift developments in technology, make up the rapidly growing field of Oncologic Imaging. CT and MRI scans, new digital radiography techniques, digital mammography, ultrasound tomography and nuclear imaging, as well as the revolutionary molecular imaging methods, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) are now the tools all oncologists need.

These issues were discussed during the 1st Hellenic Congress on Oncologic Imaging held at the Athens Music Hall Conference Center on October 23-25, 2009. The Conference was organized by HYGEIA Hospital and was attended by scientists from Greek hospitals and healthcare services.

Mr Paris Kosmidis, Organizing Committee Chairman, oncologist and Chairman of HYGEIA’s Scientific Board, noted, “Owing to the latest surgical techniques, the new and more effective chemotherapy medications, the targeted therapies and the highly accurate radiotherapy and radiosurgery methods, the results of various treatments may be evaluated more accurately and minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis or palliative tumor treatment may be performed more reliably.” He also added that the possibility of diagnosing many cancer types even earlier has improved significantly.
