On the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day on May 30, HYGEIA and MITERA Hospitals organized a special meeting with the aim of providing information and raising awareness regarding this major problem. A large number of people gathered at the N. Louros Conference Center, located within MITERA Hospital, to listen to talks by distinguished scientists from both hospitals. The speakers mainly focused on young people and smoking, as well as the significance of briefing them early on this very harmful addiction, while a relevant video was also screened.
The State’s efforts to protect passive smokers by banning smoking in all public areas as of 1/1/2010, as part of the broader EU actions on this issue, were viewed positively. During the event, a group of HYGEIA pulmonologists (including Ms E. Oikonomou, Mr D. Kyrousis and Ms E. Pipini) offered free pulmonary testing to all participants outside the Conference Centre.
