HYGEIA: Innovative Method for Diagnosis of Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders for First Time in Greece Using the Likvor CELDA® System
13 September 2018
A new and innovative method for diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) disorders by Likvor CELDA® system has been introduced for first time in Greece. The method was presented during a scientific meeting with title “Dementia and Assessment of Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics”, held at the “N. Louros” Conference Center of HYGEIA Group.
As noted by Dr. Dimitrios Kombogiorgas, Neurosurgeon & HYGEIA Hospital Scientific Associate, “Nowadays, dementia, incontinence, balance and gait disturbances are common problems. These symptoms are part of the normal aging process, but they are also the main symptoms of a condition known as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), caused by a disturbance of the fluid around the brain and the spinal cord. It is believed that up to 6% and 10% of the elderly patients with dementia actually suffer from NPH. When there is suspicion of NPH or CSF shunt dysfunction, the Likvor CELDA® System is used to assess CSF dynamics, and diagnose CSF pressure and flow problems.”
The Likvor CELDA® System uses protocols to adequately identify and diagnose patients who suffer from NPH, but presenting with symptoms similar to those of dementia. Reliable and easy to use it, the Likvor CELDA® System sets new standards in the investigations of CSF dynamics and CSF shunts function, offering safe, faster and more accurate diagnosis. The Likvor CELDA® System also provides detailed information to doctors, who can then accurately decide whether the patients need to be operated on or not.
All data analysis are performed in real time by the Likvor CELDA® System. A written report of the results is printed as soon as the investigation is finished.
