2nd International Workshop on ENT Endoscopic Surgery Nose and Larynx at the ELPEN Research & Experimental Center

Over the last few years in Greece, we have completely abandoned the traditional way of life and this has brought about changes in nutrition. This, coupled with the lack of exercise, atmospheric pollution and increased alcohol consumption (especially when combined with smoking), has led to a rise in allergic rhinitis and other problems of the larynx. As a result, there has been an increase in nasal polyps, sinusitis, as well as benign and malignant conditions of the larynx.

The 2nd International Workshop on ENT Endoscopic Surgery Nose and Larynx was held at the ELPEN Research & Experimental Center, under the auspices of the HYGEIA Scientific Board and the Scientific Union of HYGEIA Doctors, in the context of continuing medical training. Many distinguished speakers participated in the Workshop, including Dr Alkis Psaltis, Head of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, and Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide, Australia; Mr Yakubu Karagama, Consultant Laryngologist at Manchester University Hospital, Department of Otolaryngology, UK; and Mr Mark G. Watson, Consultant Laryngologist at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary of United Kingdom.

Ms Anatoli Pataridou, Scientific Head of the Workshop and ENT surgeon, noted that the Workshop aimed to train new doctors from around the world on modern endoscopic techniques in treating problems of the nose, sinuses and larynx.

The latest endoscopic techniques using neuronavigation and endoscopic tools were presented to the attendees. With regard to endoscopic surgery of the larynx, experienced speakers unveiled new types of laser and other techniques for treating laryngeal problems.
