MITERA Institute of Life: Awareness Campaign for Oocyte Cryopreservation
14 March 2018
Prompted by the International Women’s Day and the motto “Oocyte cryopreservation is a need, not a choice”, the MITERA Institute of Life launched an oocyte cryopreservation awareness campaign at Golden Hall, with many doctors joining the event.
The women who visited Golden Hall had the chance to find out all about the modern oocyte cryopreservation techniques available. Mr George Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association, Mayor of Marousi and President of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, also attended the event. He talked about the benefits for women who opt for oocyte cryopreservation at a young age, with the aim of using these eggs and becoming mothers whenever they wish.
As noted by the Scientific Head of the MITERA Institute of Life, Mr Giannis Christopoulos, obstetrician/gynecologist, “Science now responds to the challenges, meeting the needs of young women who want to pursue a professional career, without sacrificing their dream of becoming mothers, even at an older age. The advances in the area of IVF have led to over 90-95% survival rates for oocytes after they have been taken out of cryopreservation. Therefore, nowadays we can talk about over 50% pregnancy rates after fertilization of oocytes in cryopreservation. Maintaining fertility through oocyte cryopreservation is one of the greatest achievements of IVF, allowing thousands of women around the world to become mothers whenever they wish.”
