HYGEIA Hospital’s Smoking Cessation Clinic addresses the needs of smokers seeking assistance to successfully quit smoking. It helps smokers comprehend all the aspects of the problem and provides solutions for their individual needs.
The Clinic implements all the cutting-edge smoking cessation techniques and, depending on their individual needs, smokers receive support from a group of specialized doctors (Pulmonologists, Psychiatrists and Dietitians).
Smokers have a choice of one or more of the following programs:
Studies have shown that regular medical monitoring while trying to overcome smoking addiction increases the possibility of successfully quitting smoking. The comprehensive program (one-year) has been designed to serve just that purpose.
The comprehensive program (one-year) includes at least 6 sessions at the Clinic (one each week for the first month, one at the end of the second month and one at the end of the third month).
To ensure successful smoking cessation, smokers are monitored for a year, with follow-ups in the sixth and twelfth month, as well as at any other time they resume smoking. As part of the program, smokers provide their medical history, while the degree of nicotine addiction and readiness to quit are also evaluated. Smokers also receive advice on how to change their behaviour, whereas suitable pharmaceutical treatment may also be prescribed, provided this is deemed necessary.
Furthermore, the level of carbon monoxide in exhaled air is also measured during each session, while pulmonary function is also checked at the beginning and the end of the program, via spirometry.
Smokers may also visit the clinic for a single session, during which they provide their medical history, while the degree of nicotine addiction and readiness to quit are also evaluated.
They also receive advice on how to change their behaviour, whereas suitable pharmaceutical treatment may be prescribed, provided this is deemed necessary. The single sessions may be repeated, depending on the needs of each smoker.
Smokers may also choose a consultation, during which the level of carbon monoxide in exhaled air is measured and pulmonary function is evaluated.
In the event that the weight increase, which is frequently observed during smoking cessation, poses a threat to the smoker’s health, there is the possibility of attending two consultations with a dietitian in the first three months.
Smokers who need special psychological or psychiatric support when quitting smoking may also attend three sessions with a specialized psychiatrist in the first three months.
