We all live at a time where open vascular operations have been largely replaced by percutaneous minimally invasive procedures (also called endovascular).

Their characteristics include:

Large incisions have been replaced by skin punctures.
Vascular repair is performed from within the vessel (this is why they are called endovascular) by using state of the art endovascular devices (balloons, stents, covered stents, endografts, filters, embolization materials, etc.).
There is no postoperative pain.
Only local anesthesia is required.
Hospital stay usually lasts one day.
Recovery time occurs in one or two days.
Possible complications are significantly reduced.

All procedures are performed in the Hybrid Operating Room, which is the only one in Greece, using last generation endovascular devices

Hybrid Operating Room
Until now percutaneous minimally invasive vascular procedures were performed either in the operating room with portable C-arms or in the angiography suite. Currently, endovascular procedures became so sophisticated and complex that require the combined advantages of the operating room and angiography suite.

Hybrid operating room is the combination of an operating room and angiography suite which enables the treatment of vascular disease in any part of the cardiovascular system.

Benefits of the Hybrid Operating Room

Minimally invasive vascular procedures can be performed in a larger percentage of the patients, especially those with multiple medical problems.
Simultaneous treatment of multiple vascular problems.
Utmost patient safety because it allows the immediate conversion of a minimally invasive to an open procedure, if the first one cannot be completed.
Reduced radiation for the patient and medical staff.
Reduced administration of contrast material to the patient (it is given in order to visualize the blood vessels).
Reduced risk of infection.
