HYGEIA Group Stands by the Refugees
With a deep sense of respect and compassion, HYGEIA Group has cared for and treated 110 Syrian refugees, including 62 children. During this period (March to June), we also had the pleasure of welcoming into the world four babies born at MITERA Hospital.
During the months of March, April and May, a total of 110 refugees, including 62 children, have been hosted at MITERA. All the refugee families received proper medical care, while all the necessary tests were performed so they could receive treatment, based on their medical history. Around 200 diagnostic tests have been performed, while throughout their hospitalization, the refugees were monitored by internists and pediatricians, in cooperation with the nursing staff. Their needs were recorded daily and they were referred to the relevant medical specialties (pediatric urologists, pediatric neurologists, ophthalmologists, ENT specialists, radiologists, gynecologists and dermatologists) when deemed necessary, for further evaluation.
Four successful childbirths also took place during this time. The neonates were closely monitored by a pediatrician/neonatologist, while the mothers were trained by the nursing staff in caring for and feeding their babies.
Furthermore, toys were distributed to the refugee children, who were entertained daily in the outdoor playground or the MITERA play area, where they made drawings or played with puzzles, accompanied by nurses, an interpreter and their parents.
